KUALA LUMPUR: The RM100 million allocated to the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra) last year has been fully utilised in implementing socio-economic programmes, especially those from the B40 group.
In a written reply, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the allocation was utilised across 216 programmes, benefiting 134,247 participants.
"For the Indian community's human capital development programme scope, 43 programmes were executed, costing RM35,278,580.46 and benefiting 21,321 participants.
"The career and entrepreneurship development programme for the Indian community encompassed 113 programmes, costing RM35,034,811.90 and benefiting 83,883 participants.
"The wellbeing, spiritual, welfare and social development programmes for the Indian community included 60 programmes, amounting to RM29,686,607.64 and benefiting 29,043 participants," he said in response to V. Sivakumar (PH-Batu Gajah).
Sivakumar had enquired about details on the expenditure breakdown by Mitra for last year.
Anwar added that as of June this year, Mitra has planned four programmes valued at RM40 million for 15,300 participants, pending final approvals before launch.
