KUALA LUMPUR: More and more motorcyclists die in accidents each year, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said an average of 67 motorcyclists die in accidents near school areas each year.
He said measures would be implemented to reduce road accidents.
"The speed limit will be reduced to 30kph in all areas near schools.
"More speed bumps need to be installed. Local authorities can work with schools on this," he said at a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Command and Control Centre.
Zahid said 5,000 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras had been installed in the city to monitor traffic congestion and road safety.
"The Kuala Lumpur City Hall and Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department need 20,000 more high-definition CCTV cameras with facial recognition to ensure smooth monitoring."
