CHUKAI: The teenager who mistakenly ate poison-laced biscuits at a plantation in Kampung Dadong Air Puteh last Friday is recovering from his ordeal.
His father, Alias Saras, 57, said his son, Mohd Daynail Haikal, 13, will be allowed to leave the hospital soon.
Daynail had been admitted to Hospital Kemaman after he collapsed shortly after eating the tainted biscuits.
Alias recounted the tense moments the family went through over the past few days.
Alias said before the incident that he had sent his fourth child out of five siblings to school as Daynail had archery practice.
"After the practice, Daynial followed a friend fishing at a small ditch beside the plantation area.
"There were numerous poisoned biscuits strewn along the fence and inside the banana plantation.
"Perhaps it's the farmers' practice to deter monkeys from intruding into the plantation," he said when met at his home in Kampung Tanah Lot, Air Puteh, here, today.
Alias said Daynail took one of the biscuits hanging on the fence and his friend tried to stop him.
However, at that moment, he had already eaten the biscuit.
"My son told me he chewed the poisoned biscuit and spat it out after it tasted sour.
"However, five minutes later, Daynail suddenly collapsed and convulsed before his friend rushed home to seek his father's help," he said.
Alias said his son was rushed to a nearby health clinic by his friend's father before he was informed of the incident.
"I immediately rushed to the clinic. At that time he was unconscious and suffered seizures several times during treatment.
"He was then transferred to Hospital Kemaman. After spending a day in the Intensive Care Unit, he appeared stable before being moved to a regular ward," he said.
Alias said he never stopped praying for his son's recovery and was grateful when informed of his improving condition.
"Daynail told me he bit the biscuit out of curiosity.
"I never expected an incident, that claimed the lives of two siblings who ate poisoned snacks in Kedah last week, to also happen to my son."
