HRD Corp instructed to withdraw letter of demand against The Edge

KUALA LUMPUR: The Human Resource Development Corp (HRD Corp) has been instructed to withdraw the letter of demand issued to The Edge Communications Sdn Bhd and one of its writers.

Human Resources Minister Steven Sim was referring to the LOD served against The Edge for allegedly defaming HRD Corp in articles based on findings from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and the Auditor-General's Report 2024.

"Upon receiving information (regarding the letter of demand), I have directed the HRD Corp to withdraw it.

"I am pleased to announce that it was withdrawn yesterday, before the PAC hold a press conference today," he told reporters in Parliament's building today.

Sim added that he "completely disagree" with the action by HRD Corp to sue the media.

"I firmly believe in the principle of media freedom in this country, a belief even before coming into power."

Earlier today, the PAC chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin expressed concerns over HRD Corp threatening to sue The Edge.
