ALOR STAR: A teenager with a history of heart complications died after collapsing at the fan's bench in Darul Aman Stadium yesterday evening (July 19).
It was learnt that the 18-year-old student collapsed at about 7pm prior to the kickoff of a FA Cup semi-final match between Kedah Darul Aman (KDA) FC and Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) FC.
The teenager, who went to the stadium with his younger sibling collapsed and passed out at the spectators bench. The other fans immediately contacted the Civil Defence Force (APM) first medical responders on duty at the stadium.
The APM team immediately rushed the victim to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, but he was pronounced dead by the medical officer upon arrival at the Emergency Zone.
Kota Setar police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Salawati Saad said checks and interviews with the victim's next-of-kin revealed that the teenager had been suffering from heart complications since his early childhood.
"Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital medical team has confirmed that the cause of death was Complex Cyanotic Heart Disease.
"Based on the investigation, it was discovered that there was no element of foul play and the death has been classified as a sudden death report," she said in a statement.
