ALOR STAR: Sarawak-based social media influencer Ngek Tsai expressed dismay after paying RM13,000 to repair a jet ski damaged during a trip to Langkawi.
In a Facebook post on his page 'NgekTsai Army,' the influencer, real name Zameen Saini, recounted colliding with a jet ski ridden by a friend during the Langkawi outing.
"To cut it short, the accident happened due to my mistake. The company staff were kind enough to offer me a replacement jet ski to continue the activity.
He said after completing the activity, he approached the company to discuss compensating for the damages.
"While I was prepared to pay from my savings, I was surprised to be quoted RM15,000," he said.
Zameen mentioned negotiating down to RM13,000 through his agent but faced difficulty withdrawing the amount due to his daily ATM limit.
Zameen said he could only withdraw RM9,000 due to his account's daily withdrawal limit and pleaded to settle the balance the next day.
Zameen claimed that he was not given a receipt as proof of the compensation payment and argued whether the repair work was that pricey.
"Is it true that the value of damage is RM15,000? If yes, where are the details? After paying RM9,000, I did not get a receipt! It was not RM9 but RM9,000!!!"
He also compared the incident to a go-cart experience in Langkawi where damage costs were clearly communicated.
Back in Sarawak, Zameen filed a police report over the incident. Meanwhile, CBW Watersport in a response said they were surprised by Zameen's online post despite an agreed settlement.
Company owner Rotna Fairi Rahani clarified that Zameen and his friend were briefed on jet ski procedures upon arrival in Langkawi.
The collision occurred during their rental period, and Zameen was briefed on the damages, which included cracks across the jet ski.
He acknowledged that the company had asked for RM15,000 from Zameen to repair the damages before agreeing to reduce the amount to RM13,000.
Following Zameen's police report, Rotna and staff provided evidence of damages and repair costs to authorities.
"I have explained to police what has transpired during the incident and presented video recordings of the jet ski damage, as well as receipts for spare parts worth RM20,600," he said.
He said the posting has tarnished his company's image, prompting him to lodge a police report early today.
In his report, Rotni is demanding Zameen take down the posting and issue a public apology to the company.
Failing which, he said the company would proceed to take legal action against the influencer.
