Penang Island City Council to clean areas where dogs died of poisoning

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) will jet-spray public areas in Tanjung Bunga, where cases of suspected dog poisoning were reported last month.

Mayor Datuk A. Rajendran, however said the cleaning exercise could not be done all the time due to limited resources.

"The cleaning exercise can be carried out but not at all times due to limited resources," he told reporters at Komtar here today.

He was asked on measures to be taken by the city council to address the issue.

On Sunday, another dog died from suspected poisoning despite calls by non-governmental organisations for stern action to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

The latest incident, which happened at Lintang Lembah Permai, was shared on the Spay Adopt Manage Assist (Sama) Society Facebook page.

The society urged residents of Lembah Permai to check their closed-circuit television cameras to help identify the culprit.

In recent weeks, as many as 30 dogs have died due to suspected poisoning in Tanjung Bunga.

Various quarters have called on the authorities to act immediately to put a stop to this incident.
