RANTAU PANJANG: A 58-year-old woman, believed to be suffering from depression, was rescued by firefighters after falling into a nearly 10-metre deep well early this morning.
The incident occurred at Kampung Felcra Bukit Tandak at 5.29am.
Rantau Panjang Fire and Rescue station chief Shapawi Stapa said his team received a call and quickly arrived at the scene to find the woman bracing herself against the well's concrete walls to avoid falling into the water.
Seven personnel from the station were involved in the rescue mission.
"Alhamdulillah, the victim was successfully brought out at 6.07am using a rope, before being handed over to the Health Ministry for further treatment.
"The woman was shivering when rescued and revealed that she did not realise she had descended into the well until she reached the water's surface.
"She screamed for help and was heard by her child.
"According to her child, the victim suffers from depression and requires constant monitoring," he said when contacted today.
Shapawi also advised the public to be vigilant with family members who are depressed or under pressure to prevent such incidents.
He also said it was important to know the contact numbers of local safety agencies for quick emergency response.
