KLUANG: Take care of his siblings and be stronger than them. That was among the last messages that the late Mahkota assemblyman, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain of Umno, gave to her eldest son.
Wan Mohd Hibatullah, 40, said this when asked if there were any memorable words from his mother.
Wan Mohd said he met his mother last week when she fell ill and began vomiting blood.
"I met my mother on Friday afternoon (last week) and I drank with her near the cabin site.
"During that time, she said she wanted to go to JB (Johor Baru) to meet (Deputy Prime Minister) Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on the 27th (last Saturday).
"On Saturday, she vomited blood after attending a programme, so we took her to the hospital for three days.
"On Monday at 2.30pm, she was discharged from the ward, but later at home around 7.30pm after Maghrib, my siblings called saying she was having difficulty breathing."
He said this at the lobby of Hospital Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom (HEBHK) here today.
Wan Mohd also expressed gratitude to those who supported his mother throughout her political career and as the Mahkota and Penawar assemblyman.
He apologised on behalf of her for any shortcomings in her tenure.
"If my mother made any mistakes or anything during her journey, I ask for everyone's forgiveness.
"I hope my mother is placed among the righteous, indeed Allah loves her more," he said.
When asked about the cause of death, Wan Mohd said he was informed that his mother had experienced complications when one of the blood vessels in her neck ruptured, causing significant bleeding in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of HEBHK.
"The doctors did their best, but we cannot overcome Allah's fate," he said.
He described his mother as a strict but caring person, who was concerned about the welfare of those in need.
"My mother loved helping people, anyone who came asking for help, she would assist.
"She would not leave something incomplete. She would try until it was accomplished. That was her nature from the beginning until her last breath," he said.
