High-speed horror: Siblings killed as trailer ploughs into home

PEKAN: A trailer driver, believed to be under the influence of drugs, crashed his vehicle into a house, killing two siblings who were asleep at KM5 of Jalan Pekan-Rompin near Kampung Ketapang Hilir early this morning.

Nurnazatul Fasiha Nasruddin, 32, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 4.15am incident, while her brother, Mohd Waldon Faris Nasruddin, 21, succumbed to his injuries at Pekan Hospital several hours later.

Their parents and Waldon Faris' 19-year-old male friend, who were also in the house at the time, were treated at Pekan Hospital along with the 40-year-old lorry driver.

Pekan police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said that the trailer, transporting plaster ceiling materials, was travelling from Johor Baru to Kuantan.

"While negotiating a bend near the incident spot, the lorry driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle before it swerved into the opposite lane and crashed into a house on the right side of the road. The trailer landed on its side.

"Nurnazatul Fasiha was killed on the spot. Her parents, along with Waldon Faris and his friend, were taken to Pekan Hospital. Waldon Faris succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at 1.30pm," he said in a statement.

Zaidi also confirmed that the trailer driver tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine. He will be remanded tomorrow (Aug 4) once discharged from Pekan Hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death or injury while driving under the influence of drugs.

Zaidi added that the sibling's father, a 60-year-old trader, and their 54-year-old housewife mother, along with Waldon Faris' friend, sustained minor injuries.

Nurnazatul Fasiha was an employee at the Welfare Department in Maran.
