'My husband asked me to wait for his return'

BAGAN SERAI: "My husband said he'll be back in two weeks and asked me to wait for his return."

This is what Siti Rashidah Sharif, 31, said about her husband's last words to her.

Her husband Muhammad Firdaus Abdull Fatah, 39, died in an explosion involving a ship near an oil platform in Bintulu, northern Sarawak on Friday night.

Siti Rashidah told Kosmo! said they had the conversation around 8pm, two hours before the explosion occurred.

She said her husband did not show any signs of distress or change in his demeanor at the time.

"My husband's colleague contacted me around 12.30am, informing me that my husband met with an accident at work and was in critical condition. They were arranging our transport to Bintulu.

"My family and I rushed to Kuala Lumpur International Airport. However, as we were approaching Ipoh, we received the news that my husband had died," she said when met yesterday.

Siti Rashidah added she was informed that the post-mortem would be conducted at the Bintulu Hospital.

"His remains then will be brought back to Bagan Serai for funeral prayers at Masjid Jamek Permaisuri Tuanku Hajah Haminah Matang Jelutong and the burial will be at Parit Jaya Muslim Cemetery," she said.

Two ship workers were killed and another seriously injured in an explosion onboard a supply vessel in the waters off Samalaju here on Friday night.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department chief Henderi Ardimansyah had said that the incident was reported at 12.57am.

An EMRS team from Bintulu Fire Station was dispatched to the Bintulu Port jetty, where they found three unconscious victims.

Two of the victims - Firdaus and another man known as George, 24- were pronounced dead by the medical officer at the scene.

Henderi had said that the third victim known only as Ahmad Zahid, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Bintulu Hospital for further treatment."
