KUALA LIPIS: A man was killed and another seriously injured when a tree fell on their campsite in Lubuk Beriang, Kampung Pagar Sasak, Padang Tengku, Kuala Lipis, this morning (Aug 4).
Kuala Lipis police chief, Superintendent Ismail Man, said Mohd Azliana Alias, 54, from Teras Jernang, Selangor, was pronounced dead at 1.15pm while receiving treatment at the Kuala Lipis Hospital Emergency Unit due to multiple injuries (polytrauma).
He added that the second victim, Dzulkefli Aman, 44, from Kampung Yain Kechau, Kuala Lipis, sustained serious injuries, including a broken right leg and is currently being treated at the same hospital.
"Five other friends, who were camping with them, escaped unhurt."
Earlier, Kuala Lipis Fire Station chief Haslizan Ramli, who confirmed the incident, said 11 personnel were dispatched to the scene immediately upon receiving the emergency call at 8.47am.
"Our team used two four-wheel-drive vehicles owned by the locals to extricate the victims from under the tree at the campsite. Medical officers from the Health Ministry also had followed the firemen on the ride to the scene.
"Upon arriving at the campsite, firemen saw two out of seven campers were seriously injured and firemen helped to bring the two injured out of the campsite using the four wheel drive before they were taken to the hospital in an ambulance," he said.
