Sabah to create ecosystem that promotes innovation among SMEs

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah aims to create an ecosystem that supports the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), promotes digital transformation, and fosters a culture of innovation in the state.

State Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said in today's rapidly evolving world, integrating technology and innovation is crucial for economic development.

"The state government's commitment to economic growth is unwavering and includes implementing an open-door policy for investors, as well as exploring new economic sources such as the Blue Economy.

"This will bring a new dimension to Sabah's economy, in line with the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development direction.

"Our current focus is to create a conducive environment for business development, attract both local and foreign investment, and ensure our workforce is equipped with the skills needed to meet future demands," he said during the opening of the "MTDC Road to Growth (R2G) 2024-Sabah" at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here.

Hajiji added that last March he had expressed the need for Sabah to identify and explore new economic sources, given that the future prosperity of the state depends on its ability to innovate and adapt to the ever-changing economic landscape.

He added, "MTDC Road to Growth (R2G) 2024 - Sabah" is a direct response to this call for action, reflecting the state's commitment to finding and nurturing new pathways for economic growth.

He also hopes that the "MTDC Road to Growth (R2G) 2024-Sabah" programme will empower the local workforce with skills and knowledge.

"(Skilled workers are) needed to succeed in a technology-based economy, and drive innovation that encourages the adoption of advanced technology and innovative solutions to enhance productivity and competitiveness across various industries in Sabah."
