KUALA LUMPUR: July proved a lucky month for a medical practitioner from Pahang, who won the RM23.3 million Toto 4D Jackpot 1 by buying a System 7 ticket, including a set of numbers which he randomly picked.
The 77-year-old told STM Lottery Sdn Bhd he had only six sets of 4D numbers, including the registration plate of his wife's car, so he decided to come up with a random set of four numbers which were similar to the car registration plate.
"I chose the pair of winning numbers which looked like each other and sounded lucky — '9938 and 8388'," he said of the ticket he bought on July 24.
The septuagenarian, however, is not keeping his winnings, preferring instead to gift them to his children.
"I'm old and I do not need so much money, so I will give the money to my children so they can use it wisely to expand their businesses and live comfortably," he said, adding that he actually enjoys the betting process more and winning was just a bonus.
The winner's System 7 ticket won him a whopping RM23,348,049.75 and another RM1,680 as System Play bonus.
The remaining winnings of RM406,052.95 from the same 4D Jackpot 1 was won by a lucky winner from Sarawak via an i-System bet.
Another two people shared RM2.9 million Toto 4D Jackpot 1 on July 27.
A 37-year-old construction manager from Sabah took the lion's shared, winning RM2,858,151.75 and a System Play bonus of RM1,680 with a System 7 ticket.
The winning numbers — 8480 and 6088 — were from car registration numbers she had seen many times before.
"The numbers were 'hinting' at me that I should not miss the opportunity to win big," she said.
The balance of the jackpot totalling RM43,635.90 was won by an i-System punter from Selangor.
