Sadness as man arrives to claim daughter's remains who died in fire

MUAR: The father of the late Noradriana Nor Hasyim, 11, one of three family members who perished in a fire at Kampung Paya Redah, Pagoh, has come to the hospital here to claim her body.

Nor Hasyim Tahir, 43, arrived at 5.50pm and rushed to the Forensic Unit at Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital to see his daughter's body.

Earlier, Nor Hasyim, who is a spice delivery van driver, was on his way back from Kelantan after making a delivery.

Upon hearing the tragic news, he immediately rushed home. There was an air of sadness as he arrived. Family members who came earlier were seen consoling him.

Most of the family members of the three victims — Noradriana and her grandparents — had gathered outside the Forensic Unit as the post-mortem was being conducted.

"We will try to complete the burial tonight if permitted. However, it all depends on the ongoing autopsy," said a relative.

Earlier, it was reported that Noradriana's elder sister, 14-year-old Norazima Mohd Radhi, had escaped the fire at their grandparents' house at 1.30am today.

Norazima could only watch helplessly as the flames ravaged the home together with her grandmother Ara Abdul Hamid, 76, grandfather Mohamed Nor Mohamed Yassin, 82 and younger sister who were all trapped inside.
