Plantation worker killed by elephants in Rompin

ROMPIN: A plantation worker died after he was killed by an elephant at the Rangkaian Tebu Hitam oil palm plantation here, yesterday.

Malay daily Kosmo! said in the 3pm incident, the Indonesian victim was working at the plantation before a group of three elephants attacked him.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Nor Azman Yusof said another plantation worker saw a man being chased by three elephants running towards him.

"At the same time, the complainant ran away with his friend to seek help.

"After two hours, the complainant and his friend returned to the scene and saw the man lying on the ground," he said yesterday.

Nor Azman added that the victim, whose head was severely damaged, was brought to Rompin Hospital for an autopsy.

The case, he said, had been classified as sudden death and investigations were underway.

"The police have also contacted the Wildlife and National Parks Department for further action."
