KUALA LUMPUR: The two Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) flights carrying injured Palestinian civilians for treatment in Malaysia have garnered the attention of global aviation enthusiasts.
The two Airbus A400M airlifters with flight numbers RMF147 and RMF148 have ranked among the top five most tracked flights on FlightRadar24, with more than 2,000 enthusiasts following them, according to the site.
The flights, which took off from Almaza Air Base in Egypt last night, had a stopover in Karachi, Pakistan, early this morning before continuing to Subang Air Base here.
The flights are expected to land in Subang later this afternoon, where the injured will be brought to a medical staging area.
Yesterday, Egyptian Ambassador to Malaysia Ragai Tawfik Said Nasr told the New Straits Times that almost one hundred injured Palestinian civilians, who were injured in Israel's brutal assault on Gaza, will arrive via the RMAF flights for treatment in Malaysia.
He said the mission was carried out following a request by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
The patients, he said, were picked by a delegation of Malaysian medical personnel, who collaborated closely with the Egyptian Health Ministry.
The NST previously reported how two RMAF Airbus A400M airlifters had flown to the airbase in Cairo to bring injured Palestinian civilians to Malaysia.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the mission was carried out after Anwar's announcement at the Palestine Solidarity Rally here on Aug 4.
Reports stated that at least 1,000 sick and injured Palestinian children had died over the last 100 days after Israel closed the border crossing between Palestine and Egypt.
Palestinian authorities said the Zionist regime also prevented 25,000 sick and injured people, including children, from travelling abroad for treatment during the same period.
