Sabah Umno Youth wants party to seek full pardon for Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: A Sabah Umno Youth delegate has proposed a motion for the party to seek a full pardon for its imprisoned former president, Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

The wing's Kota Belud division chief Samri Moksan said the former prime minister, also known as 'Bossku', could contribute to the revival of Umno, as many people missed him.

"Datuk Nazifuddin (Najib), we stand with you. Let us all stand in agreement and to show moral support to Nazifuddin and his family.

"Bossku is very close to the hearts of the people of Sabah, and was the prime minister that visited Sabah the most," he said when debating the Umno Youth chief's policy speech, today.

Najib, who is serving his sentence in Kajang Prison, had initially been given a 12-year prison sentence and fined RM120 million after being found guilty in his corruption case involving RM42 million of SRC International Sdn Bhd.

However, the Federal Territories Pardons Board, chaired by the then King, Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, had reduced this to six years' imprisonment and a fine of RM50 million.

Najib had filed an appeal to serve out the remainder of his six-year jail sentence under house arrest.

The notice of appeal was filed on July 9, and the Court of Appeal had set Oct 7 for case management.
