SHAH ALAM: Selangor leads the nation in terms of Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd (ASNB) unit trust investments, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said there were about 2.72 million investors from the state, who have subscribed to over 72.06 billion ASNB units.
"Today, we have about 2.72 million customers or individuals (from Selangor) holding unit trust shares valued at 72.06 billion units offered by Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB).
"This represents a significant portion of the total 4.5194 million unit holders (nationwide)," he said at the 2024 Malaysia Unit Trust Week (MSAM) at Setia City Convention Centre here today.
Present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, PNB group chairman Raja Tan Sri Arshad Raja Tun Uda and Selangor State Legislative Assembly speaker Lau Weng San.
Amirudin said the ASNB shares could bridge ties, as well as prevent economic disparities between the nation's races and communities.
"This will continue to be the base for developing personal or corporate economic stability… and help us achieve unity while stabilising a crucial aspect of national development," he said.
On another matter, he welcomed Minggu Saham Amanah Malaysia (MSAM) for applying science, technology, engineering and mathematics elements to its events and its efforts to produce holistic talent for national development.
"I am pleased to see the educational elements and core components (implemented) in this campaign, as they align with the wishes of the state government.
"When we presented the Selangor First Plan, the first element in the context of economic development was to enhance education through the fields of science, technology and mathematics, as well as technical and vocational training (TVET).
"Each year, we will set aside between RM20 million and RM30 million for TVET programmes, and work with the Education Ministry to promote TVET, as well as science and technology," he said.
