Thunderstorm warning for several states until 5pm

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states today, with heavy rain and strong winds expected until 5pm.

According to a Facebook post by MetMalaysia, the affected states are Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor and Labuan.

In Kelantan, the affected areas are Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang.

In Terengganu, the affected areas are Besut, Setiu, Hulu Terengganu and Dungun.

In Pahang, the affected areas are Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Bentong, Pekan and Rompin.

The warning also extends to Sarawak, with the affected area being Limbang, while in Sabah the affected areas are Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Keningau, Tambunan, Pantai Barat, Kunak, Lahad Datu, Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran, Sandakan and Kudat.

MetMalaysia stated that the warning was issued due to signs of thunderstorms with rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour, either occurring or expected to last for more than an hour.

The short-term warning is valid for a maximum of six hours from the time of issuance.
