Burst dam in Slim River leaves scores stranded, three bridges destroyed

SLIM RIVER: Scores of people were left stranded after a burst dam in Kampung Ulu Slim, near Kampung Slim caused a powerful surge of water, flooding their homes.

The burst dam, which followed intense rainfall this evening, also led to the collapse of three bridges.

Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the incident also affected other areas including Kampung Sungai Bil, Sir Zulkifli Campsite, Kampung Pasir, and Eco Park Risda.

Azizi said the authorities were alerted to the incident at 6.46pm, with reports of a flood in Kampung Sungai Bil.

"We were also informed that the water treatment facility at the Kampung Pasir Ulu Slim dam near the TNB Kampung Pasir Station had burst," he said when contacted tonight.

Azizi said the incident left 50 people stranded in Kampung Sungai Bil, 15 at the Sir Zulkifli Campsite, 25 in Kampung Pasir, and 19 at Eco Park Risda.

"So far, we've had no reports of missing persons.

"The downpour also caused the Slim Village bridge, Ulu Slim bridge, and Kampung Piong bridge to collapse after the water overflowed.

"A temporary shelter has been set up at the Masjid Jamek Kampung Pasir for victims whose homes were affected by the flood.

"As of 10.30pm, it is still raining, and the river water remains high and fast-flowing," he said.
