Search for sinkhole victim won't stop on Aug 31, says Fahmi [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: The search for a woman who fell into a sinkhole here will not be suspended on the National Day holiday on Aug 31, says the communications minister.

Fahmi Fadzil also said all wastewater from the sinkhole flowed to the final point at the Pantai Dalam plant.

"The flow (from the Masjid India sinkhole) goes directly here and nothing will go beyond this point (Pantai Dalam pool).

"There is a physical screen and the material is separated to be processed in the facility," he said after visiting the Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) Pantai Dalam plant here today.

Fahmi also expressed his sympathy for the family of the 48-year-old woman from India, identified only as Vijayaletchumy.

Earlier today, a team from Kuala Lumpur City Hall and the Malaysia Nuclear Agency used ground-penetrating radar to locate the victim.

IWK is using a sewer jetter to break up debris in a manhole about 69 metres from the sinkhole.

Rescuers have so far managed to find only a pair of slippers belonging to the victim near the location.
