KLUANG: The Malaysian army and Singapore army concluded the 28th edition of the Semangat Bersatu Exercise, an annual bilateral exercise held at the Ladang Sungai Kluang complex, here, yesterday.
The exercise kick-started on Monday (Aug 19) and consisted of three phases, namely, the pre-exercise preparation, field training, and post-exercise evaluation, which included cross-training exercises, joint adventure training, field training and final assault simulations.
The exercise required its participants to be agile and efficient while maintaining close cooperation.
It saw the participation of some 746 army officers and soldiers from their respective battalion headquarters and rifle companies of both countries.
Army chief General Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan said the exercise met all its objectives, particularly in the execution of complex offensive operations.
"The troops demonstrated a high level of professionalism, and both defence forces integrated seamlessly," he said in his speech during the closing ceremony.
Hafizuddeain, however, pointed out the need to enhance decision-making speed in high-pressure scenarios, which will be addressed in future training sessions.
He recommended that decision-making procedures during time-sensitive situations be further improved.
He said the coordination and mutual support between the two military forces were exemplary, and the joint command structure operated effectively.
He said the exercise has strengthened the ties between both nation's armies, while fostering mutual respect and understanding.
"The knowledge gained will significantly boost future readiness and collaboration, enhancing the ability of both armies to tackle regional security challenges," he added.
He said plans are underway to develop more comprehensive joint-training exercises that would incorporate advanced technologies and real-time decision-making drills.
Hafizuddeain and Singapore Army chief Major-General David Neo officiated the closing ceremony.
Also present were 3rd Division commander Major General Datuk Indera Zahari Mohd Ariffin, who is also Istana Negara comptroller of the Royal Household, and assistant chief of staff for operations and training Major General Datuk Semaon Marzuki, among others.
