Jalan Melayu closed over ground stability concerns

KUALA LUMPUR: The authorities have closed Jalan Melayu to traffic and removed the interlocking paving bricks on the surface over fears the ground could be sinking.

The area is tens of metres from Jalan Masjid India, where a search for a female Indian tourist who fell into a sinkwhole is ongoing.

Checks at around 12pm today (Aug 30), showed that Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had diverted traffic from the road and part of the ground was exposed.

A section of the nearby Lorong Tuanku Abdul Rahman has also been cordonned off.

A source said there were concerns the ground could be sinking.

There have been two sinkholes on Jalan Masjid India.

The first sinkhole that the Indian tourist fell into was formed last Friday.

The second sinkhole formed about 50 meters away in the early hours of Wednesday.
