KUALA LUMPUR: Responding to the Education Ministry's call to make education accessible to all, Nilai University has launched the Education For All (EFA) initiative, designed to support exceptional B40 students from challenging socio-economic backgrounds.
Its vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Azhar Ismail said the university believed that everyone deserves access to quality education.
"Education is something very important that everyone needs but not everybody can get. But I believe everyone deserves access to quality education.
"As such, Nilai University has responded to the call of the Education Ministry towards the principle of EFA, which was originally implemented by The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
"We are aware of the EFA principle and feel responsible for fulfilling the global mandate that strives to ensure that all people around the world have the necessary educational rights," he said.
From the start of its establishment, he said, the university has been progressive in community outreach, offering scholarships, financial aid and engaging in community activities.
"Students enrolled in the foundation programme at Nilai University, whether in Business or Science, will have the chance to apply for a full scholarship to complete their degree.
"We have more than 10 scholarships and awards catering to the different backgrounds where eligible students could enjoy 100 percent tuition fee waiver and on-campus accommodation."
He also said Nilai University intake for September and October 2024 are now open for a wide range of programmes, from Foundation in Science and Business to Diploma and Degrees in Management and Marketing, Accounting & Finance, Computing, Humanities & Social Sciences and Hospitality & Tourism.
"In addition to its diverse programmes offered at Nilai University, the Nursing programme stands out with the exciting opportunity of a full sponsorship.
"This comprehensive sponsorship in collaboration with the university's industrial partners program covers accommodation, allowances, tuition fees, and even employment opportunities post-graduation.
"This initiative not only removes the financial barriers for aspiring healthcare professionals but also fulfills the growing demand for skilled nurses," he said.
Nilai University, he said, also offers two distinguished engineering programmes with Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) accreditation since 2014: Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering and Master of Engineering Science.
This Diploma incorporates the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) syllabus, preparing students for the EASA Part 66 Category B1 or B2 license examinations.
"As part of the course, students will undergo guaranteed industrial attachment with the university's aviation partners," he said.
