Ex-police association sets up dialysis centre for members

KOTA KINABALU: A centre with 16 dialysis machines will be ready by year-end for Sabah Malaysian Ex-Police Association members.

The association's Corporate Economic Bureau chairman Datuk Seri Zulfakar Hashim added the centre will be operating at the state capital here.

"This year, we will establish a dialysis centre under the Sabah Malaysian Ex-Police Association in Kota Kinabalu. Our members will receive free treatment at this new facility,"

"We have over 300 association members suffering from kidney disease who currently have to queue and wait for their turn at government hospitals," he was quoted in a statement.

Zulfakar was interviewed by the Sabah Information Department after a courtesy call on the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin at Istana Seri Kinabalu here yesterday.

He also mentioned that the association is considering Juhar's suggestion to establish similar haemodialysis centres in other towns like Tawau and Sandakan.

Meanwhile, association president Datuk Awang Kassim Gemo, who led the visit, said the association has expanded from seven branches to 16 branches with a membership of 6,426 people.

"Our activities focus on welfare, and today, I and my delegation explained to Tun Juhar that we have taken steps to corporatise the association."
