KUANTAN: The construction of a RM122 million road and bypass project at two locations in Cameron Highlands will help alleviate traffic congestion at the popular tourist destination.
Pahang Local Government, Housing, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Datuk Mohammad Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff said the project involves two areas, namely the McDonald's roundabout and Kea Farm.
"The stretch between the McDonald's roundabout and Brinchang junction (Time Tunnel Museum) at the highlands is being upgraded while a one-way traffic loop system will be introduced at Kea Farm.
"The project has achieved nine percent progress," he said during the question and answer session at the Pahang state assembly sitting at Wisma Sri Pahang here today (Sept 5).
Fakhruddin was replying to a supplementary question from Ho Chi Yang (DAP-Tanah Rata) on the alternative route projects at Cameron Highlands to help tackle traffic congestion.
Meanwhile, Fakhruddin said the RM480 million new road from Habu to Tanah Rata which was approved by the federal government is still in the designing stages.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the construction of the new road when tabling Budget 2023 last year.
Earlier, Fakhruddin, when replying to a question from Ho on plans to build a multi-storey car park in Cameron Highlands, said the district council has agreed to provide 516 parking bays under phase one which will be completed in February next year.
"The temporary car park will be built on land owned by the district council. Phase two offering another 543 parking bays will be planned based on current needs," he said.
