ALOR STAR: Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has urged state government agencies and departments to fulfil their business tithe obligations, praising the Kedah State Development Corporation (PKNK) and its subsidiaries for their consistent contributions.
Sanusi, who is also PKNK chairman, commended the agency for its commitment to tithe payments since 2019, when it contributed RM1.5 million.
He said that PKNK's business tithe for 2023 exceeded RM2.99 million, up from RM2.07 million in 2022, involving 13 of its subsidiaries.
"The increase in tithe payments is directly linked to the operational performance of each subsidiary. As profits grow, so do their contributions," he said during the Business Tithe Handover ceremony at Ukir Mall today.
Present were State Secretary Datuk Seri Norizan Khazali, State Financial Officer Datuk Syed Khairol Anuar Syed Abidin, PKNK chief executive officer Datuk Isahak Murat, and State Tithe Board (LZNK) chief executive officer Datuk Zakaria Othman.
Sanusi said that RM600,000 had already been distributed to tithe recipients through PKNK's tithe distribution policy.
"For the 2024 distribution, I urge everyone to begin the allocations beginning October 2024," he said.
He said PKNK had launched a campaign targeting business owners renting its premises, aiming to inspire more businesses to meet their tithe obligations.
Meanwhile, Sanusi lauded LZNK's efforts in raising awareness about tithe payments among Muslims, including those in the private, business, and corporate sectors.
He said many financial institutions and private companies had made it a practice to fulfil their tithe obligations before announcing their annual financial results.
