SHAH ALAM: A man pretended to buy a gold necklace as a gift for his mother before fleeing with jewellery worth RM24,800.
The man is now being hunted by the police after being caught stealing a gold necklace in an incident at a jewellery shop in Bandar Botanik, Klang, the day before yesterday.
South Klang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Cha Hoong Fong said that his team had earlier received a report from a jewellery shop salesperson regarding the incident.
"Investigations revealed that the incident occurred at 1.40pm last Tuesday, when the suspect entered the premises, pretending to buy a gold necklace as a gift for his mother.
"The complainant then took the gold necklace out of the display rack after the suspect had selected it. However, the man left the premises to talk on his mobile phone.
"The suspect then re-entered the jewellery shop, took the gold necklace, and fled on a motorcycle parked in front of the shop," he said.
He added that the Criminal Investigation Division of the South Klang District Police Headquarters has since opened an investigation paper under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building.
"Based on the information received, the police have identified the suspect as Muhamad Syafiq Zaharuddin. Members of the public with any information regarding the suspect are urged to come forward to the nearest police station or contact the South Klang IPD at 03-33762222 to assist in the investigation," he said.
