Police hunt for woman who stole RM30,000 necklace from jewellery store

KUALA SELANGOR: Police are on the lookout for a woman believed to have stolen a necklace worth RM30,000.

The incident occurred around 12.25pm on Sept 16, when the woman entered the shop under the pretense of buying jewellery.

She allegedly requested to see a gold necklace weighing approximately 74.05 grams. Shortly after, she fled with the necklace.

Shop workers had insufficient time to react as the woman made a quick getaway.

A video of the incident has since gone viral. The one minute and 35-second clip shows the woman emerging from a silver Perodua MyVi before entering the shop.

Wearing a red blouse and a dark-coloured headscarf, the woman went directly to the showcase and was seen speaking to one of the workers. She was handed some jewellery and then made a run for it.

The video shows her getting into the Perodua car before it speeds off, while the workers attempt to give chase.

District police chief Superintendent Azaharudin Tajudin confirmed that an investigation has been opened under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft.

"Based on our investigation, the woman is believed to have stolen a necklace worth RM30,000. We are working on tracking down the suspect," he said, urging anyone with information to contact them immediately.

Those with information should contact the Kuala Selangor police at 03-32891222.
