ALOR GAJAH: A 'stylish' woman in sunglasses, who robbed seven jewellery shops around Melaka, Selangor, and Negri Sembilan since July, has been arrested by police.
Malay daily Kosmo! reported that the 26-year-old suspect was arrested together with her boyfriend and mother.
District deputy chief, Deputy Superintendent Azrul Mohamed, said all suspects were successfully tracked down and arrested by Selangor police on Oct 5.
"Based on closed-circuit television footage from the shops involved, this woman would pretend to be a customer before fleeing with the jewellery she was holding.
"The suspect's boyfriend, also 26, acted as the driver of the getaway car, a white Toyota Yaris, while the mother, a 61-year-old retired teacher, was responsible for selling the stolen gold," he said, as quoted by the Malay daily.
He added that during questioning, the couple admitted to being involved in three cases in Masjid Tanah, Alor Gajah, and Pulau Sebang. Losses were estimated at RM50,000.
"All suspects have been remanded to assist in the investigation under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, and fines.
"The stolen gold in the seven cases across the three states is believed to have been sold. So far, none have been recovered," he added.
