Father of BN candidate for Mahkota by-election put in induced coma

KLUANG: The father of Barisan Nasional candidate for the Mahkota by-election Syed Hussein Syed Abdullah, has been put into an induced coma early today (Sept 8).

"Assalamualaikum. I humbly request prayers from all my friends for my father, Syed Abdullah, to be given strength.

"There is nothing more I can ask for than the prayers of all my friends," Syed Hussein, who is also the Kluang Umno Youth chief, said in a Facebook post.

The comments section of the social media post was flooded with messages and prayers from his friends and followers wishing for the speedy recovery of his father.

It was reported yesterday that Syed Hussein, 40, was announced as BN candidate for the Mahkota state seat by-election.

His candidacy was announced by Johor Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, after receiving the approval of BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Syed Hussien was previously one of two names shortlisted and widely mentioned as a potential BN candidate, alongside deputy Kluang Wanita Umno chief Zainani Jamaluddin.

The by-election at the state seat was called following the death of its assemblyman Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain on Aug 2.

Following the vacancy, the Election Commission has fixed Sept 14 as the nomination of candidates and Sept 28 as polling day for the Mahkota by-election.

The by-election would see 66,318 voters going to the polls and the EC allocating RM2.4 million for the process.
