KOTA KINABALU: Police have launched a community reporting system using QR code in Sabah.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said that the new platform, the first of its kind in Malaysia, is an initiative by the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) of the Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters.
"Previously, the established 15 'Op Payung' stations around city centres to ensure public safety and order.
"However, with the passage of time and the expanding areas that need monitoring, 'Op Payung' is no longer sufficient," he said after the launching programme at the Warisan Square Police Station here today.
Present was city mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah.
He said that, in line with digital technology advancements, the use of QR code scanning simplifies public access while improving police services to be more efficient.
"Initially, the Sabah Police Contingent chose four districts—Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Tuaran, and Papar—as pilot areas.
"The results will serve as a benchmark for the effectiveness of the platform before it is expanded to all districts in Sabah," he said.
"All information submitted through this platform will remain confidential and appropriate actions will be taken."
Jauteh mentioned that, in addition to this platform, the police will continue to use conventional methods, such as police complaint boxes and the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application.
