Sabah scholarships: Azis should be thankful, not critical

KOTA KINABALU: Following the approval of scholarships for his two children, the Sabah Chief Minister has suggested that Parti Warisan Information Chief Datuk Seri Azis Jamman should express appreciation rather than criticism towards the state government.

Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said that the scholarships were awarded with good intentions to support all Sabahans in need, regardless of their background.

"He should show some gratitude. We have approved scholarships for his children. Instead of acknowledging this, he continues to criticise us.

"Our aim is straightforward: to serve and assist all those who require it. Yet, instead of being appreciative, he chooses to attack (Sabah government)," he told reporters after launching the Engineering, Science, and Technology Congress (ESTCON) at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here.

Azis, who previously served as Deputy Home Minister, had responded yesterday that his children are entitled to the scholarships, as they fulfil the minimum requirement.

Meanwhile, when asked about the public sentiment on Sabah government's decision to award scholarships to Azis despite his background, Hajiji refused to comment.
