PN manifesto targets high cost of living, says Muhyiddin

KLUANG: Perikatan Nasional's (PN) manifesto in the Mahkota by-election will focus on addressing the high cost of living.

PN chairman and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the soon-to-be released manifesto for the Mahkota seat will ensure no one is left out, if the mandate is given to its candidate, Mohamad Haizan Jaafar.

He said PN is committed to serving all communities, despite concerns about the voters' composition, with 55 per cent of them Malays and the rest non-Malays.

"Our message is clear — the welfare of the people must come first," he said at the Tunku Ibrahim Ismail nomination centre here today.

He said PN is focused on winning the seat even though the by-election result will not impact the federal or state government.

PN campaign machinery, led by election director Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Johor Perikatan chairman Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal, has been actively engaging grassroots supporters.

Muhyiddin said: "Our experience in governing at both federal and state levels gives us confidence that we can bring significant benefits to the people of Mahkota."

PN candidate Haizan, or better known as Coach Haizan, plans to establish an office if elected.

The office will include community leaders from all races to ensure the needs of every group are addressed, he added.

Haizan, 61, said his priority is the welfare of Mahkota residents.

"If elected to represent the people here, I will focus on resolving the issues they are facing. Their welfare will always come first," he said.

Haizan will face off Barisan Nasional's Syed Hussein Syed Abdullah in a straight fight for the Mahkota seat.

The by-election was triggered by the death of Umno's Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain on Aug 2.

In the 2022 state polls, Sharifah Azizah won the seat for BN in a four-cornered fight by a majority of 5,166 votes.

Polling day is set for Sept 28, with early voting scheduled for Sept 24
