SIK: An elderly man died hours after being stung by a swarm of hornets while picking fruits in his Kampung Jelutong orchard here yesterday.
The victim, Ahmad Dahaman, 72, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Sik Hospital.
District Civil Defence Force officer Lieutenant (PA) Haisul Aishah Mohd Napiah said the attack occurred as Ahmad was descending from a dokong tree.
"A rescue team evacuated the victim from the area and handed him over to a Sik Hospital ambulance. Unfortunately, he died while receiving treatment yesterday evening," she said in a statement today.
Haisul advised the public to exercise caution during fruit seasons, as venomous insects often nest in fruit trees.
