KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar has confirmed that the doctrine of GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISB) will be discussed by the National Committee on Islamic Religious Affairs Malaysia (MKI) next week.
He said the issue would be one of those discussed during the MKI session from Sept 24 to 26.
"The issue related to GISB's doctrine and beliefs will be brought up as one of the topics for discussion by the MKI Muzakarah Committee.
"The Muzakarah Committee is chaired by Datuk Nooh Gadot and includes the respected state mufti," Na'im said in a statement.
His response came following yesterday's announcement by the Perlis Fatwa Committee declaring that the beliefs and teachings of GISB contained elements of deviance, particularly regarding batiniah teachings.
Perlis Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin said that the fatwa was issued after the committee received convincing evidence that the organisation promoted deviant beliefs.
Following the announcement, Terengganu Mufti Datuk Dr Mohamad Sabri Haron said the state would soon follow the move by Perlis.
He said that the Terengganu Fatwa Committee would issue a ruling based on clear evidence indicating that the organisation promoted deviant teachings.
On Friday, the media reported Nooh as saying that MKI officials would meet soon to discuss GISB.
Na'im said the government supported the police action in detaining GISB leaders and members.
He said the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) had cooperated with the police other than having meetings with State Religious Departments (JAIN) to coordinate enforcement against the company.
Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the CEO of GISB and his wife were among 19 people arrested in a raid on a complex in Bukit Bintang here.
Earlier today, police also raided a house where the chief executive officer of GISB was staying in Kelantan.
The house near Kampung Panji, Kota Baru, was among three raided by the police, Welfare Department and Kelantan Religious Department this morning.
Several books relating to GISB were also found in a nearby riverbank, believed to be buried by a member of the group.
