Conference of Rulers to discuss GISB doctrine

KUALA LUMPUR: A decision on the Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISB) doctrinal issue is expected to be known next month.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said the Muzakarah Committee of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI), chaired by Datuk Dr Nooh Gadut, will meet with all state muftis nationwide for three days, starting tomorrow in Terengganu.

He said once the decision from the committee is reached, it will be presented to MKI chairman, the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is the deputy chairman of the council.

"A special paper related to GISB has been prepared by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) for consideration tomorrow (Tuesday) at the MKI Muzakarah Committee meeting.

"We expect to receive the decision on approval (from the Conference of Rulers) next month, as we have acted swiftly to prepare for the discussions starting tomorrow," he said when met after the Pre-Launch Ceremony of the 64th National Quran Recitation and Memorisation Competition (MTHQA) held here today.

Yesterday, Berita Harian reported that the seized materials from Phase Four of Op Global will be used as supporting evidence in the investigation into the beliefs of the GISB group's followers.

Jakim director-general Datuk Hakimah Mohd Yusoff had said that this evidence would form the basis of the report.

She had also said that the decision from the MKI Muzakarah on the doctrinal status promoted by GISB would serve as guidance for state religious authorities in issuing fatwas, allowing the group's teachings to be brought to the Syariah Court.
