Langkawi ferry service resumes

ALOR STAR: The Kuala Kedah–Langkawi passenger ferry service has resumed today after a three-day suspension due to high waves and storms.

Konsortium Ferrylines Ventures Sdn Bhd (Ferrylines) general manager Captain Dr Baharin Baharom confirmed four trips from Kuala Kedah and five return trips from Langkawi will run today, with 1,664 passengers booked as of 11am.

The first ferry from Kuala Kedah to Langkawi departs at 1.30pm followed trips at 3pm, 4.30pm and 6pm.

"The ferry service from Langkawi to Kuala Kedah started at 10.30am followed by trips at 12pm, 1.30pm, 3pm and 4pm today.

"Weather and sea conditions today are favourable, and passengers can still buy tickets online or at the counter," he said when met at the Kuala Kedah Ferry Terminal today.

Baharin said Ferrylines would remain vigilant to weather changes as the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) predicted upcoming stormy periods.

"According to MetMalaysia, from Sept 24 to early November, the Southwest Monsoon transition will bring strong winds and heavy rain in the northern peninsula, particularly in the late afternoon and evening.

"We will announce any schedule changes via the media and the 'Cuti-Cuti Langkawi' app," he added.

Over the past five days, Ferrylines refunded nearly RM200,000 to passengers affected by the service cancellations between Sept 17 and yesterday.
