Police urge pick-up truck driver who obstructed ambulance to come forward [WATCH]

KOTA BARU: A pick-up truck driver who was caught on camera obstructing an ambulance at the Padang Lembek interchange in Ketereh, here, has been asked to come forward and facilitate police investigations after a video of his act had gone viral.

Kota Baru district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud urged the ambulance driver to also come forward to help with the investigation.

"Both drivers are summoned to appear at the district Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Division, as soon as possible," he said.

This comes following a 46-second video which was posted on TikTok which showed the driver of a white pick-up truck blocking the path of an ambulance, despite the emergency siren being on and the ambulance honking a few times.

The incident allegedly happened at about 7pm yesterday.

"If proven as an offence, the driver of the pick-up truck can be investigated under Rule 9(2) LN166/59 which is 'to not give way to an ambulance during an emergency'.

"The driver may be punished according to Section 119 of the Road Transport Act 1987 which provides for a fine of not more than RM2,000 or imprisonment of up to six months," he said in a statement last night.

Mohd Rosdi advised all road users to obey traffic rules and to be considerate and cautious on the road.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident may also contact the department to help with police investigations. Those with information may contact the Kota Baru Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Division head, Assistant Superintendent Boon Chun Yee at 09-7752200 or come to the Kota Baru district police station," he said.
