Kedah govt awaits reports from authorities on GISB activities

ALOR STAR: The Kedah government has yet to decide on any action to be taken against the premises of Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) across the state.

State Education, Religious, Communications, and Information Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Azam Abd Samat said they are still awaiting full reports from the State Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAIK), the Mufti Department, and the police for further action.

He said any action, including the closure of the company's premises, cannot be determined by the state government without the reports from the relevant agencies.

"For any legal actions, the responsible agencies need to provide a complete report.

"We need to wait for the reports regarding the status of GISB in Kedah before deciding on the necessary actions," he said when contacted by Berita Harian today.

Yesterday, the media reported that the Selangor government had taken action by ordering the immediate closure of all GISB premises in the state, with all of the company's assets seized.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Sharif had said that he would announce the total number of premises, including shelters and religious schools owned by GISB in the state, on Wednesday.

He added the closure order also includes shelters associated with the organisation and religious schools.
