Dog dragged behind car in Penang receiving treatment

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Veterinary Services Department (DVS) is investigating an incident where a man was captured on camera driving a car with a dog tied to its rear here.

Its director Dr Saira Banu Mohamed Rejab said they have taken note of the incident.

"Police have gotten in touch with our investigating officer. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has taken the dog to the veterinary clinic for treatment," she told the New Straits Times.

It was reported that a man was captured on camera driving a car with a dog tied to its rear at Jalan Kulim, Taman Sentosa in Bukit Mertajam on Saturday night.

Police have since received a report from the man.

The man alleged that while stopping at the traffic lights at Jalan Kulim, Taman Sentosa, he was alerted by a motorist to the dog being tied to the rear of his vehicle and immediately alighted from his car to check.

The dog was tied by his in-law to prevent the dog from loitering in the neighbour's house.

and said he had no intention to abuse the dog, has since apologised to the public for the incident.

Asked if the dog has suffered from any serious injuries, including fracture, Dr Saira Banu it was still being treated.

"Investigation is underway," she added.
