KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Bendera member of parliament Syerleena Abdul Rashid has expressed deep sorrow over hateful comments insulting her late father, who suffered from dementia.
"Insult me, criticise me, but not my late father..." she wrote in a Facebook post, urging critics to direct their anger at her rather than her deceased father.
"Only because of politics, they are willing to insult other people's family members who have nothing to do with it.", she wrote.
Syerleena, who lost her father only a few months ago, said, "The sadness still hasn't subsided," and shared how she constantly thinks of him.
"Every moment, every second, his face is always on my mind," she added.
She appealed to her political opponents, asking, "Even if you hate me or my party, please don't insult my late father."
Her message has drawn widespread support online, with many condemning the offensive remarks.
