Baling hit by 2nd wave of floods, 1,400 evacuated across Kedah

ALOR STAR: Baling has become the latest district hit by the second wave of floods in Kedah, with 164 people from 64 households evacuated to four temporary relief centres (PPS).

This brings the total number of evacuees in the state to 1,401 from 455 families, now sheltering in 14 PPS across four districts after persistent heavy rainfall.

The figure has risen from 1,333 evacuees from 422 families, who were housed in 10 PPS across three districts as of 8pm yesterday.

According to the Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, Pokok Sena continues to have the highest number of evacuees, with 692 individuals from 219 families in five PPS, down from 733 yesterday.

In Kota Setar, the number of evacuees has slightly increased to 419 from 130 families, compared to 417 the previous day.

Kubang Pasu saw a decline, with 126 evacuees from 44 families, down from 183.

As of 8am, the Public Infobanjir website reported two rivers — Sungai Ketil in Baling and Sungai Anak Bukit in Kota Setar — exceeding dangerous water levels.
