Floods in Baling worsen overnight, improving elsewhere in Kedah

ALOR STAR: The number of flood evacuees in the state has dropped as conditions improved across four districts, leaving about 2,200 people still seeking shelter in temporary flood relief centres (PPS).

However, figures are climbing in Baling district, where conditions worsened overnight.

An update from the Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that 2,257 evacuees from 726 families were housed in 21 PPS as of 8am.

Baling, the worst-affected area, now has 904 evacuees from 314 families sheltering in nine PPS—an increase from the 642 evacuees reported yesterday evening.

Kota Setar experienced some relief, with 710 evacuees from 224 families in eight PPS, down from 1,005 yesterday (Oct 13).

Meanwhile, Kubang Pasu now houses 86 evacuees from 31 families, and Pokok Sena holds 54 evacuees from 20 families—a decrease from 91 and 71 evacuees, respectively.

Meanwhile, Pendang's figures remain unchanged, with 503 evacuees from 137 families still in two PPS.

The Drainage and Irrigation Department, on its Public Infobanjir website, reported that water levels in three rivers across Kota Setar and Baling have exceeded danger thresholds and are rising.

These include Sungai Anak Bukit at Taman Aman and Jambatan TAR in Kota Setar; and Sungai Ketil at Kuala Pegang in Baling.
