Over 3,600 evacuated in Kedah as floods worsen

ALOR STAR: The number of flood evacuees in Kedah has risen to 3,600 as of 8am today.

The Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that 3,655 people from 1,163 households are now sheltered at 24 temporary flood relief centres (PPS), an increase from 3,496 people yesterday.

The increase in flood evacuees came from the Kota Setar and Kubang Pasu districts.

In Pokok Sena and Pendang, 98 flood victims were able to leave their respective PPS to return home.

Meanwhile, the Drainage and Irrigation Department's website reported that the water levels of five rivers in Kubang Pasu and Kota Setar are still above danger levels.

Water levels in four of the five rivers continue to rise.
