RTD upgrades systems for smooth transition to Class B motorcycle licence [WATCH]

KAJANG: The Road Transport Department (RTD) is upgrading its systems to ensure a smooth transition for the Class B motorcycle licence programme.

Its director general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said they had noted an increase in access to the MyJPJ application today.

"The transition programme began today and the higher number of people accessing the system could be those checking their eligibility," he told reporters at a driving institute here on Oct 1.

Aedy Fadly visited the driving institute to witness the first person taking part in the Class B licence course and practical exam.

He was accompanied by Kuala Lumpur RTD director Mohd Zaki Ismail and Selangor RTD director Azrin Borhan.

Aedy Fadly said were certain criteria set in order to determine who was eligible to participate in the programme.

"Firstly, they must be Malaysian citizens who hold either a valid Class B2 or B1 license that has never lapsed or been blacklisted.

"They must not have any summonses or convictions for serious offences under the Road Traffic Act," he said adding that those interested could check their eligibility via the MyJPJ application.

He said those eligible could go to any of the 180 driving institutes selected to conduct the transition programme.

"The list of the 180 institutes will be published on the MyJPJ application.

"License holders must perform self-checks on their physical and mental health before registration at the driving institute," he said, adding that the response from the public to this programme was high.

He added that the RTD had set a ceiling rate of RM160 for the driving institutes for this special programme.

"This fee includes registration and insurance, transition and adjustment course, service fee (including vehicle and circuit rental) and examination fees.

"More information about the programme can be found at www.jpj.gov.my," he said.
