KAJANG: A civil servant with over 20 years of experience holding a Class B2 driver's licence has become the first person in the country to obtain the Class B (high-powered motorcycle) driver's licence under the special transition programme.
Speaking to reporters at a driving institute here today, civil servant Afifi Anuar, 36, expressed relief after passing the test, which he completed for just RM160.
"This is a great initiative by the government," he said.
Afifi, who has held a Class B2 licence for over 20 years said that his previous licence only allowed him to ride motorcycles under 250cc.
With his new Class B licence, he now has the option to upgrade to a more powerful bike.
"I've always wanted a bigger bike for my daily commute from Klang to Bangi. Maybe now, if my wife agrees, I can finally get one," he quipped.
Afifi encouraged other motorcyclists to take advantage of the programme.
"No one should be riding high-powered motorcycles without the proper licence," he said.
Though he was initially nervous as the first to take the test, he credited the trainers' tips for helping him succeed.
His goal is now to save up for a Kawasaki high-powered motorcycle.
The special transition programme, which began today, allows Class B1 and B2 licence holders with over 10 years of experience, a clean record, and no RTD blacklists, to upgrade to a Class B licence after completing two hours of training and passing a practical test.
