KUALA LUMPUR: The National Registration Department (NRD) is offering replacement services for identification documents such as identity cards and birth certificates without penalties for flood victims.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the initiative is part of the commitment from the ministry, particularly NRD, to assist those affected by the disaster.
"If flood victims were unable to save their identification documents such as birth certificates or MyKad that were lost, damaged, or otherwise, they should immediately visit the NRD office to request replacements once the flood subsides.
"For those affected by the recent floods, please inform the relevant officers that you were involved in the incident," he said in a video on Facebook.
He also advised the public to always be vigilant regarding the weather, especially as the monsoon season, which typically affects the East Coast at the end of the year, approaches.
"Relocate (if instructed) promptly and without delay. Cooperate with the authorities and always ensure the safety of yourself and your family," he said.
Saifuddin also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for announcing a RM13 million allocation for post-flood aid in Kedah, reflecting the unity government's commitment to prioritising the welfare of the people above political boundaries.
He also offered his condolences to the family of drowning victims, Salmah Mat Zain, 46, and her son, Muhammad Rosman Rohaidi, 19, who were swept away by strong currents while wading through floodwaters in Padang Terap, Kedah, recently.
