KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry, through the National Registration Department (NRD), is offering free replacement of documents such as birth certificates and identification cards (IC) to flood victims who have lost them.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said NRD staff will set up counters and deploy mobile units to flood-affected areas once the flood season is over.
This is to ensure services can be provided promptly, he said.
"I hope our efforts will, to some extent, assist the affected victims and make their post-flood arrangements easier," he said in a posting on X.
The flood situation in several states has worsened, with the number of evacuees exceeding 140,000 last night, and four fatalities have been reported.
An elderly man who drowned while fishing in a padi field area in Kampung Amir, Terengganu, on Nov 28 was the first flood-related fatality in the state during the current floods.
In Kelantan, a one-year-old boy was among three people who have died since floods hit the state last Monday.
